Customized slow trip - yet affordable! - As hands-on or off as we wished! No regrets with SaharaTrek. Best decision we made for our first trip to Morocco.
Luiza helped us plan a trip to slowly... read more go around the country - extra days in key cities to relax, learn, and absorb rather than single day stops at many places. It all went smoothly, and yet we had flexibility!
We enjoyed a balance of "on our own time" plus guided medina tours and classes:
Family Cooking with Brahim and Sena;
Bread Baking with Najiyah, including the community oven; and
Calligraphy with Mohamed Charkaoui. 5 stars each.
Our driver, Mostafa, was outstanding. 10 stars. From airport pickup to dropoff. You need to get along with the driver, and he was so friendly, flexible, ready when we were. We learned a lot from Mostafa. Shukran, my brother, we miss you.
Riad accomodations were very comfortable with outstanding service. Beautiful, clean, and quiet, great locations.
Our Marrakech guide, Aziz, and Fes guide Mohamed, were perfect matches for us in the medinas and souks, with the artisans - they know so much history, culture.
Jawad in the Palmary, after the Gorge, was a great way to learn about dates and go for a nice hike, meet farmers, climb a date tree!
We hit Essaouira (relaxing ocean side town, 2); Marrakech (4); Ait Ben Haddout, Todra Gorge and Palmary (1); Erg Chebbi with Camel Sunrise ride (1); stopped for the Ziz Oasis and Atlas monkeys on our way to Fes (3); and then Volubulis (self guided, try it backwards!), Rabat and Casablanca to end the trip (1). The argan oil, pottery, and rug cooperatives were in there too.
12 very memorable days and nights. Thank you SaharaTrek.
The best way to experience Morocco! - Just came back from our trip in Morocco and it was a blast. We booked this trip just 2-3 weeks prior with the help of Luiza. I looked into many... read more different tour companies, but Luiza at Sahara Trek made all the difference. She was helpful, responsive and was very thorough with the planning. Our itinerary followed a customized version of “Essential Morocco,” having added Casablanca into the mix. Luiza made it very easy to make adjustments according to our taste. It was especially helpful having the pocket Wi-Fi, as some of our days were road tripping through the beautiful Atlas Mountains. I can’t believe we were able to organize an awesome itinerary with a competitive price in such a short time frame! Fouad was our driver for the whole trip and he was very professional, helpful and accommodating. He would make sure that we were well taken care of at the places we visited. Aziz, Joad, and Mohammed were our city guides and they were all knowledgeable and very nice. You can tell that each guide was very passionate about what they do. We never felt rushed and always felt safe throughout. The team at Sahara Trek are truly something special. We already miss our time in Morocco and hope to come back and visit again one day. Thank you Sahara Trek for the trip of a lifetime and for showing us the rich culture and beauty of Morocco!
Sahara Trek - Totally Awesome Tour! - Totally AWESOME trip and experience. Luiza at Sahar Trek was nothing short of remarkable. She arranged the best driver, Anus, and the best guides for Marrakesh and Fes... read more , Aziz and Mohammed respectively. This private tour enabled us to see and experience the "real" Moroccan culture rather than what you are told on larger group tours. I can't wait until they expand their tour itineraries into other countries too.
We had the trip of a lifetime, and we have Sahara Trek to thank for it! - We highly recommend Sahara Trek if you are looking for a tour company who will customize a private tour based on your group’s needs and wants, with the knowledge and... read more experience of where to stay and go all around Morocco.
From our first call, Luiza was so patient answering all our questions, not to mention all her efforts to accommodate our many wishes while making sure that we stayed within our budget! Every time we called to ask more questions, she either already knew the answers or checked into our requests and got back to us very quickly with information.
We packed so many activities and cities into our vacation and Luiza guided us through the whole planning process providing all the necessary logistics to arrange our itinerary.
Even though we selected standard accommodations to keep the price down, every place we stayed in was clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated, and most importantly air conditioned (except for the cave room)!
After Luiza emailed a list of all the riads she planned for each night of our tour, I asked if they all had pools. This was very important to me because it was so very hot while we were there, and I knew that I’d want to jump into a pool almost every day. Anyway, Luiza confirmed each riad had a pool in it or if there was a pool that we could use in a related location or advised if it was unavailable.
We loved all the riads we stayed in, and they were all conveniently located in the heart of each city we were visiting. Only one of the raids we stayed in was modernized, but the rest were authentic with traditional Moroccan décor, some with rooftop dining, lounging, or gardens. The riad hosts and staff were all warm, welcoming and helpful!
Included in our tour was a personal vehicle and driver, Fouad, who was our guide, translator and bodyguard. He took very good care of us throughout the entire tour. At each stop he handed us off either to the riad staff or the tour guide for our next adventure. He always had water bottles ready for us or knew where we could stop if we needed anything during the tour. He took us to a place for lunch one day that we wouldn’t have even noticed if he didn’t know about it. All the food was fresh and delicious and very reasonably priced.
We were very happy with the tour guides Luiza booked for us in each city (with special thanks to Aziz in Marrakesh, Mohammed in Fez, and Mouna in Rabat). They were friendly, respectful, and extremely knowledgeable. Our tour included many of the activities that are part of the 9-day Deserts and Empires tour detailed on Sahara Trek’s website, however, there were a few unexpected activities during the tour that were truly a pleasant surprise like making pottery at the mosaic workshop during our day in Fez.
We had the trip of a lifetime, and we have Sahara Trek to thank for it!
Unforgettable tour of Marrakech, Rabat, and Fes, plus a night in the Agafay Desert. - I went to Morocco with 3 friends and we worked with Sahara Trek to plan the trip. One of our party already reviewed the trip and I agree wholeheartedly with... read more her review! In addition I want to give a shout out to our guide Aziz in Marrakesh. He was very knowledgeable, professional, friendly and accommodating. I won't soon forget his bright smile and his strong encouragement to try all things Moroccan (i.e., the food in the square, ride a camel in the desert and get a hammam)! Our guide in Rabat was also very good - we were only able to spend a few hours with him given our schedule; it was Eid, very busy and we learned a lot. All this to say (again) what a great trip Luiza at Sahara Trek helped us plan. The trip was unforgettable, made especially so by the people involved: Luiza, our amazing driver Fouad, and our three guides (including Mohammed in Fes)! Thanks to all!
Outstanding!! - My Chicago friends and I chose Sahara Trek after diligently researching numerous options. In short, we had an incredible and highly memorable trip! The guides, especially Mohammed in Fes, were... read more knowledgeable, scholarly, kind, caring and engaging as we toured Marrakech, Agafay Desert, Rabat and Fes. Equally important, Fouad, our wonderful driver, enlightened us about the various landscapes along the way while keeping us safe on the chaotic streets of Marrakech, etc. Luiza's proactive communications with her team kept the trip on course without any glitches. Thank you, Luiza!!
The diversity among our hotels was intriguing, ranging from the lux Inara Camp in the Agafay Desert to the opulent Fairmont Hotel in Rabat to the vintage and beautiful riad, La Maison Bleue in Fes. That being said, it was the warm hospitality of the people at various locations that warmed our hearts and spirits each day! Our hearts, minds and spirits are once again renewed and inspired! Our respective thanks to Sahara Trek and its entire team for their tireless dedication, kindness and knowledge they imparted with all of us! We are all well traveled, but this trip was unparalleled on so many levels! A warm thanks to Morocco and its wonderful people and warm hospitality!
Great Morocco experience - We used SaharaTrek and Luiza to help us arrange our recent trip in Morocco. We had a general plan for our tour of Morocco and Luiza was very helpful... read more in advising re specifics and in getting us riad/hotel and activity reservations. Once there our driver (and interpreter) Fouad provided much useful information and made suggestions for things to see that we had not thought of; he looked for things that we asked for. Local guides were arranged for us, including Mohammed in Fez and Aziz in Marrakech. Our experience with Luiza, Fouad and Sahara Trek was very positive and we would not hesitate to engage them again; they made arrangements which worked and were very responsive. What a trip of a lifetime! - What an experience. I don’t know if I’ll adequately have the words in this review to express how well taken care of I feel after this tour with SAHARATREK and... read more especially with Abdel our driver.
Luiza booked our trip for us, she took care of everything. She made a custom itinerary, and the fee wasn’t astronomical, she kept us updated until the date of arrival and we didn’t have to worry about a thing. She was in contact with us the entire trip and took care of any concerns we had. We went from
Marrakech, to Rabat, to Fez, to Chefchaoun. Our hotels were outstanding. Of course there were some give and take but overall SPECTACULAR. RIAD El Yacout and Club Val D’anfa being my favorite! Thank you so much Luiza!
Abdel was our driver. He was a PERFECT gentleman. I could cry writing this review. Two ladies traveling alone and we didn’t feel endangered once because we felt protected with Abdel. He drove safely, he gave us Moroccan history as we drove from city to city, he helped us with our bags everywhere, he really took great care of us. I have no complaints and I will be referring all my friends to him and Luiza. Can you imagine being in a foreign country and being made to feel like you’re one of their own? We traveled for 6 days and the entire trip was special. The best trip I’ve taken thus far. Thank you thank you thank you Abdel! You are family forever!
SaharaTrek, you did that ❤️
Don't get much time away from work, so had to make every day count. Took SaharaTrek's 7 day Ancient Empires. They had another tour that included a camel ride, but... read more we did that already in Egypt and that was plenty. Other companies offered similar tours, but they have time-fillers like tea in a tent, etc, and I don't have time for that. In 7 days, we saw everything in Morocco we wanted to. The imperial cities, roman ruins, and the blue city. Loved the mix of guided tours and self-exploration. Liked that they only included breakfast and dinner because we love to go out and find our own food options. A real highlight was the Ghost Tour of Fez. No one else did that and it really made the tour for us.
The mandatory family vacation went better than ever this year when we visited Morocco with SaharaTrek. We took their short “Essential Morocco” tour, and it was perfect. No wasted time... read more on uninteresting and vaguely authentic tea ceremonies with pseudo-nomads and other bits of tired schtick. This was fast-moving, hit the highlights, just the right amount of time, and never got boring kinda tour. Hands-on, always moving, always seeing. Loved the mix of guided and self-guided time and how we could be flexible enough with the schedule so we were moving faster with things that interested us less, and spending more time on things we were more interested in. Loved the ghost tour of Fez!
We had an awesome time on the private tour of Morocco with SaharaTrek. Everything was super organized and ran smoothly. We saw a ton of sites and the tour... read more was catered to us. The ghost tour was a special treat we did not see offered anywhere else. The guides were professional and knowledgeable. Before I contacted SAharaTrek I tried putting it together myself. It was way too hard, confusing and kinda scary. With just Moroccan companies you don't know who you are dealing with. But SaharaTrek made it all easy and are a trusted American company. Would definitely recommend.
