Bus-tour figures below are each tour's average price across all of its published 2026–27 departures, not its cheapest sale date. Every price is per person, two travelers sharing a room, land only.

Per person per day, two sharing a room, land only. Bus-tour figures are each tour's average price across all its published 2026–27 departures; private-company figures are their published starting prices. Checked October 2026 — verify current pricing on each operator's website.
Trafalgar's 11-day Best of Morocco averages $3,126 per person across its published departures — about $284 a day on a bus with a group. Our 12-day Grand Tour at $3,316 runs the same route — Casablanca, Rabat, Meknes, Fez, the Sahara, Todra Gorge, Aït Benhaddou, Marrakech, Essaouira and El Jadida — adds Chefchaouen and Tangier, and works out to about $276 a day, in your own vehicle with a private driver and boutique riads.
Trafalgar's Best of Morocco (about $284 a day) and Insight's Treasures of Morocco (about $317 a day) cover the imperial cities, the Atlantic coast and the Sahara by bus. Our 9-day Deserts and Empires at $2,494 covers the same ground privately for about $277 a day.
Trafalgar's Fez, Sahara, Todra Gorge, Aït Benhaddou and Marrakech days are the route of our 7-day Essential Morocco. At $1,925 — about $275 a day against Trafalgar's $284 — it's a private week built around a night in the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Insight's Treasures of Morocco is the premium bus tour on this route: $3,486 on average for 11 days, about $317 a day, in 4- and 5-star hotels. Our most indulgent itinerary, Hammams, Riads & Beyond, is $3,696 for 12 days — about $308 a day — with the hammam, a balloon flight over Marrakech and a cooking class built in.
The private, tailor-made companies that travel the way we do charge for it. Audley's 11-day Imperial Cities & the Sahara starts at $6,995 (about $636 a day), and Kensington's 15-day Grand Moroccan Journey at $8,797 (about $586 a day) — and those are starting prices. Our private Grand Tour works out to about $276 a day. Same private driver, same freedom to change the plan, and you deal directly with the operator who runs your trip.

Explore this tour →Most US tour companies (Collette, Trafalgar, Insight) don't operate in Morocco themselves — they contract with a Moroccan ground operator and add their margin on top. You're paying for two companies. With SaharaTrek you're working with the operator directly.
We've negotiated direct rates with riad owners, guides, and drivers across Morocco. New entrants pay rack rates we worked out of our pricing years ago.
We don't run a 200-person headquarters, a brochure-mailing department, or national TV advertising. Those costs go into prices at companies that do.
Counterintuitive but true. A family-run riad in Fes typically costs less per night than the international-chain hotels group operators book — and offers a vastly more authentic experience.
Three reasons. First, we operate directly in Morocco — the US-based brands (Collette, Trafalgar, Insight) contract through Moroccan ground operators and add their margin on top. Second, we've maintained direct vendor relationships for 25+ years, so we pay rates new entrants can't match. Third, we don't carry the overhead of large corporate operations. The combined effect is a private trip for less per day than a seat on the bus tour that runs the same route.
Yes. Each SaharaTrek tour is compared with the bus tours that run the same route, and prices are shown per day so a nine-day trip and an eleven-day trip compare fairly. All prices are per person with two travelers sharing one room, land only. SaharaTrek also offers lower per-person rates for 3–8 travelers, so a family or a group of friends pays less than the figures shown.
Each bus-tour figure is that tour's average across all of its published 2026–27 departures — not its cheapest sale date. Private companies publish only starting prices, so their real averages are higher than shown. We checked every figure in October 2026; tour pricing changes with season and promotions, so verify any comparison on the operator's own website.
There isn't one, but there are tradeoffs. We don't have the brand recognition of a Collette or Trafalgar — when your friends ask "who's that?" you'll need to point them to our reviews and credentials rather than a name they've heard on TV. We're a smaller team, so we work primarily by direct relationship rather than through a national sales force. And the customizable nature of our tours means more decisions for you to make upfront than a fixed-itinerary tour requires.
