Before you send anyone a deposit — us included — you deserve to know exactly how the money works: what you pay and when, what happens if plans change, and what protects you. Here it is in plain English. (The full legal version lives on our Terms page; nothing here replaces it, this just translates it.)
When You Pay What
50% deposit. This confirms your reservation and locks in your dates, riads, and drivers.
The remaining 50%. That’s it — no third installment, no surprise fees at the airport.
Nothing owed to us. Your own spending money for tips, souvenirs, and meals not in your itinerary is all you need.
We accept major credit cards, wire transfers, and checks. All prices are quoted in U.S. dollars and based on two people sharing a room unless your quote says otherwise. Quoted prices can shift until you actually book — once you’ve booked, your price is your price.
What Your Price Covers
Your accommodations, the meals marked in your itinerary (B for breakfast, L for lunch, D for dinner), private transportation throughout the tour, the entrance fees listed as included, your private guides, and taxes.
What it doesn’t cover: international flights, travel insurance, visa and passport costs, tips for guides and drivers, meals not marked in your itinerary, alcohol, personal expenses, optional activities you add on your own, and medical costs. Our honest rule of thumb: if it isn’t explicitly listed as included, assume it isn’t.
If You Need to Cancel
You get 95% back. We keep a 5% administrative fee, and the rest returns to you.
No refund. This is the hard line in our policy, and we’d rather you read it here in plain type than discover it in fine print.
The reason the line is firm: by a month out, your deposits have already gone to the riads, drivers, and camps holding your dates — and they don’t refund us either.
The practical details: cancellations must be in writing (email counts), and the clock stops when we receive your notice. Changing your dates or switching tours inside the 30-day window counts as a cancellation plus a rebooking. Arriving late or leaving early doesn’t refund the unused days.
This is exactly why we tell every client, without exception: get travel insurance. A good policy covers you if illness, family emergency, or the unexpected forces a cancellation inside that window — for a small fraction of your trip cost. We wrote an honest guide to what travel insurance for Morocco actually covers, and you can compare policies at Squaremouth. Buy it soon after booking — some benefits only apply when purchased early.
If We Cancel
Fair is fair, so the other direction is written down too. If we cancel your tour before departure, you choose: a full refund, or credit toward a future tour. If a tour has to end partway through, you receive a prorated refund for the days not completed. The one exception is the kind of event nobody controls — war, natural disaster, pandemic — where we’ll still provide your refund or credit, but can’t cover things you booked separately, like your flights. (One more reason insurance earns its keep.)
Is My Money Safe With You?
A fair question to ask any tour company. SaharaTrek is a registered and bonded Florida Seller of Travel (#ST43790) — state certification that exists precisely to protect your travel investment — and we hold an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. We’ve been arranging Morocco privately since 1999, and the fastest way to check our character is to read what travelers say on TripAdvisor.
